Every Voice Music Services Presentation: The Benefits of Music on the Mind, Body, & Spirit

Thanks to your support, Capitol Lakes has partnered with Every Voice Music Services since January to provide music therapy group sessions focused on active music making, connection with others, and memory care.

While participation and engagement in the group therapy sessions has been successful, it's also important to reach out to caregivers, family members, and others on how they can use music to interact with a loved one. Thanks to you, your Capitol Lakes Foundation was able to provide an additional grant to Every Voice Music Services for a presentation in Capitol Lakes' Grand Hall on the benefits music can have on the brain, body, and spirit.

On Monday, May 13th Music Therapist, Gabrielle Tynan, and Music Therapy Intern, Erma Dippold, spoke to a crowd of just over a dozen Capitol Lakes residents and family members to share the positive impact music therapy group sessions are having on Capitol Lakes memory care and other residents. They also relayed how individuals can use music to improve cognitive and physical functioning for themselves and their loved ones. For example, they revealed practical ways that music can be used to interact with a loved one living with dementia.

I've seen first-hand how music therapy benefits residents, but I'm particularly grateful to the Capitol Lakes Foundation for providing a grant so that individual residents and family members can learn from trained therapists on how they can harness the power of music to benefit themselves and their loved ones. - Dawn Vandre, Recreational Therapy Director at Capitol Lakes

Thanks for all you do to enhance the living experience for Capitol Lakes resident and their families!
