Answering the Call: Helping the Welcome Committee Support New Residents

Capitol Lakes Foundation

Updated: Jan 22

The resident-led Welcome Committee at Capitol Lakes seeks to make the transition to Capitol Lakes as easy as possible for new residents. Relocating can be a challenging experience - especially for those who may be moving from a home where they have lived for decades. New environments often come with uncertainties like finding friends and settling into routines.

Creating a warm environment for new residents is crucial and the residents on Capitol Lakes' Welcome Committee understand how simple gestures can have significant impacts. That's why they wanted to gift the humorous book, "I Am NOT Old Enough!" by Hilde Adler to each new resident moving to Capitol Lakes this year. In this short book, Adler identifies the 27 stages she experienced while adjusting to life in a retirement community. During a time that can often be stressful, Adler's light-hearted book reassures new residents that they are not alone, and that ultimately they will be glad to have made the move.

While the Welcome Committee knew this gift would bring a smile to the faces of those just joining our community, they needed a way to pay for the 22 books they wanted to distribute in 2025. Thanks to your generosity, the Capitol Lakes Foundation was able to step in to fill this funding gap and approve the Welcome Committee's request.

Your gifts continue to make a significant, positive difference throughout the Capitol Lakes community. Thanks for enhancing the living experience for our newest residents!
