Good afternoon! I wanted to pass on my gratitude to the donors who made it possible for me to attend the 10-week “Teamwork & Leadership Communication” course through Madison College.
I just completed the course in late December. It was a small group of six of us from various backgrounds – everything from healthcare to manufacturing to food service. Through both lecture style and group discussions, we reviewed mental health support in the workplace/how to manage burnout, how different generations learn and handle stress, emotional intelligence/active listening, and more.
As a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, I not only help with process improvement, data, and outcomes, I also have a hand in change management and teamwork. The Madison College course also provided some excellent tools and resources on how to manage the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral aspects of one’s work and their relationship with co-workers and customers. Some of the biggest takeaways for me involved orientation and change management – serendipitous timing as I am introducing Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) in the new hire meetings, rather than just providing a brochure. I’ve taken away some great tools and resources that will come in handy with the assisted living changes happening in 2025.
Thanks to the Foundation and donors for financing this online course. It was very valuable to be able to discuss a smorgasbord of leadership skills with people in various industries and backgrounds. It reaffirmed my commitment to quality and the notion that it is not just an end product, but the tools, the training, the thinking that goes into our jobs and how to leverage those skills to the advantage of not just our residents, but to our coworkers as well.
See you in the New Year! Gonna be a great one!
